Custom Boat Name Lettering - Transom Name & Hailing Port Decal, One or Two Color BNL100
Need registration numbers for the bow? Build your registration numbers here.
Put your boat's name on the transom the way you picture it. Type the name and hailing port, pick your letter height, arch, font and colors, and see it on your hull color before you order. Model number BNL100.
One Color or Two
- One color: solid die-cut lettering in any color from our chart.
- Two color, layered: your lettering with an outline border in a second color, thin, medium or thick. We layer the two colors here in our shop and pre-mask them together, so it installs as one piece.
Arch the name gentle, medium or strong for the classic transom look. The hailing port goes under the name, sized to match.

Documented Boats
Federal rules require USCG documented boats to mark the name and hailing port in letters at least 4 inches tall. Recreational documented boats put both together on one clearly visible spot on the hull, usually the transom. Check the documented box in the builder and it keeps both lines at 4 inches or taller.

How to Install
- Clean the hull with rubbing alcohol to remove wax and let it dry. Install above 50 degrees and out of direct sun.
- Measure and level the lettering, then tape the top edge to make a hinge.
- Flip it up, peel off the backing, and lay it down slowly while pressing with the squeegee from the center out.
- Rub firmly over every letter, then peel the clear transfer tape off slowly at a sharp angle.
Prefer the wet method? A light mist of water with a drop of dish soap lets you slide the lettering into place before squeegeeing. Keep the boat out of the water for 48 hours after installing.
Care and Removal
Wait 48 hours before washing. Then use regular boat soap and a soft brush or cloth. Avoid pressure washing the edges of the letters and skip harsh solvents. To remove, warm it with a heat gun or hair dryer and peel from a corner. Any leftover adhesive comes off with an adhesive remover.
FAQ
Is the two color version hard to install? No. We layer the outline and lettering here and mask them together, so you put it on in one step just like a one color decal.
What letter height should I pick? 6 to 8 inches reads well on most transoms. Documented boats need at least 4 inches.
Do you have other fonts? Yes. Type the name of any font from our font chart in the builder and we will cut it in that font.
